Photos from ORT International Cooperation (IC) programmes in Africa

Africa is the birthplace of International Cooperation programmes. ORT initially undertook educational projects in the 1960s due to its experience in Francophone nations and related proficiency in French, as well as its existing schools in Tunisia, Morocco and Algeria.

ORT IC programmes over the years have run in Angola, Botswana, Burkina Faso, Burundi, Cameroon, Cape Verde, Central African Republic, Chad, the Democratic Republic of Congo (formerly Zaire), Ethiopia, Gabon, Gambia, Ghana, Guinea, Ivory Coast, Kenya, Lesotho, Liberia, Madagascar, Mali, Mauritania, Morocco, Namibia, Niger, Nigeria, Rwanda, Senegal, Sierra Leone, Somalia, South Africa,  Sudan, Swaziland, Tanzania, Togo, Uganda, Zambia and Zimbabwe.

Over the past 60 years, IC expanded its training and technical assistance programmes in response to the rapidly changing African environment.

Services were expanded to include agricultural training centres, agroforestry, rural and urban development, transportation, mother and childcare health and nutrition, ICT, and management and technical training for government ministries, public utilities, and commercial enterprises.
