Guide to the archives of World ORT, held at World ORT Archive (WOA), London
The World ORT Archive (WOA) was established in London in 1999. It contains the records of World ORT (formerly World ORT Union), its governing bodies and associate organisations world-wide. The archive includes minutes of meetings, reports, correspondence, fund-raising and PR, research and development, administrative and financial records. It also has significant photographic (PC, 1920- present) and audio-visual collections (FC, 1930-present).
Additional Archive Sources
Prior to establishing its own archive, ORT had deposited some of its records with other institutions. The main repositories holding ORT records are the Central Archives for the History of the Jewish People (CAHJP) in Jerusalem and YIVO in New York. There is also a collection of ORT material at the Emanuel Ringelblum Jewish Historical Institute in Warsaw, as well as smaller collections in several European countries. In recent years World ORT has been collecting copies of some of this material, but permission to use these records will need to be sought from the holding institutions individually. ORT France also holds an archival collection – mostly related to work in France and North Africa.
In addition, national and regional archives in former Soviet countries also hold relevant records, some of which have been gathered by ORT and its associates.
