ORT in Canada

ORT’s activities in Canada began around 1940. It provided vocational courses in the Canadian internment camps for German-Jewish refugees until 1941. A vocational school opened in February 1943 in Montreal. A women’s committee organised a Guardianship Vocational Training Plan, ‘fostering’ and sponsoring the education and training of children in ORT schools in Europe. Canadian ORT also Supplied clothing, food supplies and vitamins, as well as machines, instruments, materials and tools to ORT programmes in Italy, Germany, Morocco and Israel between 1946 and 1949. After the opening of ORT’s Anieres teacher training institute, ORT Canada also supplied materials and learning aids to the institute.

Since then the essential role of ORT Canada has been fundraising for general ORT activities.
